Day 16 - John 5:24-30
30 Jan 2017
The healing of the man at the pool at Bethesda provoked a confrontation between the religious authorities and Jesus. They knew what Jesus was claiming about himself. He is claiming to be fully God, equal with the Father.
To show that they were not misunderstanding his point, Jesus tells them they have come to exactly the right conclusion. As we saw yesterday, Jesus began to give us an insight into his relationship with his Father. Now, as he continues, he tells us why it is so important that we believe him, and why we can believe him.
In verses 24-30 we see the seriousness of the situation. We can’t claim to worship God if we do not worship the Son he loves. The Son is the one who will judge the world. We may be amazed at the fact that Jesus has healed people just by speaking. But it is far more important that we see that at his voice the dead will be raised and judged. That judgement will be just, because he is doing the will of God.
This is a terrifying truth - but there is hope. If we trust him now, we can know that we have salvation and life (verse 24). True life begins when he trust the Son God has sent, and know the verdict of the last day now.
